Despite this, some states have resisted imposing stricter measures, with South Dakota’s governor stating that the state would “not stop or discourage people from thanking God and celebrating Thanksgiving” despite warnings from health officials.

Latin America remains one of the hardest-hit regions, accounting for over 30% of global COVID-19 related deaths despite only having 8% of the world's population. Brazil has recorded over 5 million cases, and Mexico has just surpassed 1 million cases. Global Efforts Continue to Develop Vaccines
Efforts to develop a vaccine continue globally, with several vaccines in the final stages of clinical trials.
